The Recipe How-To

“Crunchy, tangy, and refreshing all in one bite”

Now that we have covered the ingredients, let’s start making the Oriental Slaw Salad. This recipe is fairly easy to whip up and won’t take too much time in the kitchen, but it will definitely leave a lasting impression on your guests.

Step 1: Toast The Noodle And Seed Mix
Start by preheating your oven to 375°F. Take a baking sheet and spread out the noodle and seed mix. Toast in the preheated oven for around 8-10 minutes or until golden brown. Make sure to keep an eye on them while they are in the oven, as they can quickly go from toasted to burnt.

Step 2: Prepare The Dressing
While waiting for the noodle and seed mix to toast, start preparing the dressing. In a medium-sized mixing bowl, whisk together the rice vinegar, soy sauce, sesame oil, vegetable oil, honey (or maple syrup) and ginger peanut dressing until well-combined.

Step 3: Combine Ingredients
Take a large bowl and combine the shredded green cabbage, red cabbage, broccoli coleslaw mix and sliced green onion. Pour over the prepared dressing mixture and toss ensuring everything is well coated with dressing.

Step 4: Add The Crunchy Toppings
Once you have everything well combined in your large bowl add in those tasty toppings like toasted ramen noodles and sunflower seeds. Pour over sesame ginger or peanut sauce for an even nuttier taste and crunchiness.

And there you have it! Your very own Oriental Slaw Salad ready to treat your guests’ taste buds with an explosion of flavour.

Substitutions and Variations

“From garden to table – fresh ingredients make all the difference”

Looking to switch things up with this delicious Orienta Slaw Salad recipe? Here are some easy substitutions and variations to try out:

1. Seasoning packet: Want to avoid processed ingredients? Try substituting the seasoning packet included in the ramen noodles with a homemade blend of dried ginger, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper.

2. Vegetarian: If you’re looking for a vegetarian version of this dish, simply omit the chicken and opt for a vegetable broth or water instead of chicken-flavored ramen noodles.

3. Gluten-free: To make this recipe gluten-free, swap out regular ramen noodles with rice noodles, rice vermicelli, or even cooked quinoa.

4. Dressing: Looking for a different dressing to add some variety to your salad? A tangy lime vinaigrette, sweet balsamic vinegar-based dressing, or creamy ginger peanut sauce would all be great pairings.

5. Crunchy toppings: While sunflower seeds and slivered almonds add a nice crunch to this salad, feel free to experiment with other toppings like crispy wonton strips, sliced radishes, or chopped peanuts.

Whether you’re accommodating dietary restrictions or simply want to mix up the flavors and textures in this Oriental Slaw Salad recipe, these simple substitutions and variations will give you endless options for customizing this dish to your liking.

Serving and Pairing

“Perfect for a summer picnic or a quick weeknight dinner”

This Oriental Slaw Salad recipe is a perfect side dish for grilled meats or barbecues. It’s a quick and easy salad that complements any main entree. The refreshing blend of vegetables and crunchy noodles is perfect for summer gatherings, picnics, or potlucks. It’s colorful, nutritious, and delicious, making it a crowd-pleaser.

Serve the Oriental Slaw Salad with your grilled meats such as chicken, beef, or pork. It pairs well with teriyaki chicken or sweet and sour pork skewers. The salad also goes well with burgers or hot dogs since it adds crunch and texture to the meal. The combination of flavors is perfect for summertime parties.

For a vegetarian meal, serve the Oriental Slaw Salad with grilled tofu, tempeh, or vegetarian burgers. The salad provides protein with the almonds and sunflower seeds and can be easily adapted to a vegan version by substituting honey with maple syrup.

If you’re looking for wine pairings for this salad, consider pairing it with a dry Riesling or Sauvignon Blanc. These wines have citrusy and herbal notes that complement the dressing’s sweetness and acidity.

Overall, this Oriental Slaw Salad is versatile enough to pair with many different dishes and drinks. Its refreshing taste makes it suitable for any occasion where food is shared – whether it be at home, at work, or at social events.

Make-Ahead, Storing and Reheating

“A healthier alternative to heavy mayo-based salads”

If you’re planning to whip up this Oriental Slaw Salad recipe in advance, you should prepare the ingredients separately and store them in separate containers. You can make the dressing ahead of time and store it in a jar with an airtight lid. Also, if you want to make it even more convenient, you can mix the salad ingredients together (excluding the ramen noodles) and store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days before serving.

When you’re ready to serve the salad, add the ramen noodles and dressing right before you toss everything together. It is crucial not to add these elements until just before serving as this will ensure that they retain their crunchy texture for maximum enjoyment.

In terms of reheating leftovers of this dish, it is best to reheat each component separately to avoid losing any texture or flavor. Reheat the coleslaw mix and chicken in a microwave or on the stovetop so that they are nice and warm but still retain their crunch. The noodles, however, can be crisped up again by cooking them in small batches either in a pan or oven.

Overall, Oriental Slaw Salad is a versatile dish that can be made early and stored separately, preventing that flimsy tasteless feel of soggy vegetables.

Tips for Perfect Results

“A symphony of veggies and spices dancing on your taste buds”

To ensure your Oriental Slaw Salad turns perfect, there are a few tips to keep in mind. First, resist the urge to dress the salad too far in advance. Leave the dressing on the side and only pour it over once guests have arrived or just before serving.

Secondly, be sure to toast the almonds and sunflower seeds before adding them to the salad for a nuttier flavor and crunchy texture. Keep an eye on them as they can go from golden brown to burnt in mere seconds.

Thirdly, don’t forget to reserve some of the seasoning packet from the ramen noodles to sprinkle over the salad for added flavor.

Fourth, if you want to save time and energy, buy pre-shredded coleslaw mix which usually includes shredded cabbage and carrots. However, if you prefer fresher vegetables, go ahead and shred your own cabbage and carrots with a sharp knife or mandoline.

Lastly, adjust the sweetness according to your taste by adding more or less sugar or using honey instead of maple syrup for a healthier alternative. Remember that rice vinegar has a mild sweetness too so you might not need too much extra sugar.

By keeping these tips in mind, you’ll create a delicious and flawless Oriental Slaw Salad every time!
